Overview

A walking half-day through Rabat's calm, walkable medina: the main souika market street, the carpet and craft showrooms of the Rue des Consuls, the Andalusian wall and the gates, with honest tips on prices and bargaining.

Rabat's medina is one of Morocco's most relaxed — smaller, flatter and far less hassly than Marrakech or Fes, and laid out on a near-grid behind the 17th-century Andalusian Wall built by Moriscos expelled from Spain. We walk the souika, the central market street, and the Rue des Consuls, historically where foreign envoys lodged and now the best street in the capital for carpets, leather, babouches and silver.

Your guide explains what's made locally versus imported, what a fair price looks like, and how to bargain without stress — then leaves you free to buy or just browse. We finish near the medina gates and the edge of the Andalusian Gardens below the kasbah. A friendly, low-key introduction to everyday Rabat.

Frequently asked

Questions about this tour.

Is "Rabat Medina, Souks & Andalusian Gardens" private or a group tour?

100% private. Just you and the people you book with — your own Rabat driver-guide, vehicle and pace from start to finish. We never pool travellers.

Can I change the itinerary or start time?

Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Shift the start time, swap a site, add the Mohammed VI Museum or a riverside lunch — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.

Where does the tour start?

We collect you from any hotel or riad in Rabat or Salé, or from Rabat–Salé airport (RBA) or the Rabat-Ville / Rabat-Agdal train stations. Tell us where you're staying and we'll confirm the pickup point.

When should I book?

Most day and half-day tours can be arranged with a few days' notice; weekends and holidays fill faster, so a week ahead is safest.

Is the Rabat medina pushy like Marrakech?

Not at all — Rabat's medina is famously low-key. Shopkeepers are relaxed, the lanes are flat and easy to navigate, and there is far less of the hard-sell you find further south. It's one of the gentlest medinas in Morocco to walk.

Will I be pressured to buy?

No. Our job is to show you the crafts, explain fair prices and the bargaining etiquette, and then step back. Whether you buy a carpet or just take photos is entirely up to you.
