Why Marrakech
Marrakech is the loud, theatrical south to Rabat's measured Atlantic capital — the two cities sit at opposite ends of the national character. From Rabat the journey is straightforward: the Al Boraq high-speed line and the standard rail network put Marrakech within easy reach for travellers who want to pair the calm of the capital's kasbah and Chellah with the sensory rush of the red city. Inside the ochre walls lie the UNESCO-listed medina, the Jemaa el-Fnaa square, the Koutoubia minaret (built by the same Almohad dynasty that raised Rabat's Hassan Tower), Bahia Palace, the Saadian Tombs and the Yves Saint Laurent and Majorelle gardens. Where Rabat rewards an unhurried day, Marrakech repays three.
What to see

19th-century palace courtyards, zellige tilework and the rediscovered Saadian necropolis behind the Kasbah mosque.
Cobalt-blue garden bought by Yves Saint Laurent in 1980, plus the museum charting his Marrakech years.
Stone desert 40 minutes from the city — camel rides, dune-buggies, sunset dinners at lantern-lit camps.
An hour into the mountains: Berber villages, waterfalls, lunch beside the river.

Three full days covers the medina, the major monuments and one half-day excursion (Agafay or Ourika). Four lets you add a slower riad morning or a hammam ritual. Many of our guests use Rabat as a calm first or last stop and give the red city its own three days in the middle of the trip.
Yes — the medina is policed and well-trafficked, though noticeably busier and more insistent than the gentle, hassle-free medina of Rabat. Standard urban precautions apply: keep valuables out of sight in crowded souks and use registered taxis or a private driver after dark.
March–May and September–November have warm days (22–28°C) and cool evenings. June–August can reach 40°C; December–February is mild but evenings are cold. The Atlantic capital, Rabat, stays milder through the summer if heat is a concern.
