Why Asilah
Asilah is the prettiest small town on the stretch of Atlantic coast that runs north from the capital — the same ocean that washes Rabat's ramparts, only a few hours up the line and forty minutes short of Tangier. It is a compact, whitewashed medina wrapped in Portuguese ramparts, with cobalt-blue doors, bougainvillea and the Atlantic breaking against the walls. Each summer an arts festival covers the lanes with fresh murals, and the town stays calm and creative year-round — an unhurried coastal stop entirely in keeping with the capital's own gentle pace, and an easy pairing with a Tangier leg.
