Why Dadès & Todra Gorges
Deep in the pre-Sahara, far beyond the Atlas from the green Atlantic capital, the kasbah road between Ouarzazate and the Sahara threads two of Morocco's most spectacular canyons — landscapes that belong to the deep south of any Rabat-based grand loop rather than to a quick coastal trip. The Todra Gorge narrows to a 300-metre-high slot barely 10 metres wide, beloved of rock climbers; the Dadès Gorge twists through rose-coloured rock past the surreal 'monkey-finger' formations and the famous hairpin switchbacks. In between lie palm oases, mudbrick kasbahs and the roses of the Valley of Roses around Kelaat M'Gouna.

Yes — they're among the most dramatic landscapes in Morocco and a natural, scenic break on the long desert route. The Todra's sheer walls and the Dadès switchbacks are highlights of any southern road trip.
Only as part of a longer southern loop — they sit deep in the pre-Sahara, roughly halfway along the kasbah road to Merzouga, well beyond the Atlas. From a Rabat base this means a multi-day journey south, usually combined with the desert, not a stand-alone trip.
