Overview
A full private day east of Rabat to two UNESCO World Heritage Sites: the imperial city of Meknes — Bab Mansour, the granaries and stables of Moulay Ismail — and Volubilis, the best-preserved Roman site in Morocco, with its mosaics and triumphal arch.
Both of the day's destinations are UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and both are an easy drive east of the capital. Meknes was the 17th-century capital of Sultan Moulay Ismail: we visit the monumental Bab Mansour gate, the vast Heri es-Souani granaries and stables, the Mausoleum of Moulay Ismail and the great water basin of the Agdal. It's an imperial city on a giant scale, yet far quieter than Fes or Marrakech.
Then on to Volubilis, the largest and best-preserved Roman site in Morocco — capital of the province of Mauretania Tingitana. Your guide walks you through the basilica, the Capitol, the triumphal arch of Caracalla, and the famous in-situ floor mosaics of the patrician houses, with the hilltop town of Moulay Idriss Zerhoun rising in the distance. A rich, accurate day of layered history, all from Rabat.

Frequently asked
Questions about this tour.
Is "Meknes & Volubilis — UNESCO Day Trip" private or a group tour?
100% private. Just you and the people you book with — your own Rabat driver-guide, vehicle and pace from start to finish. We never pool travellers.
Can I change the itinerary or start time?
Yes. Every itinerary is a starting point. Shift the start time, swap a site, add the Mohammed VI Museum or a riverside lunch — we'll re-quote in 24 hours and lock the price in writing before any deposit.
Where does the tour start?
We collect you from any hotel or riad in Rabat or Salé, or from Rabat–Salé airport (RBA) or the Rabat-Ville / Rabat-Agdal train stations. Tell us where you're staying and we'll confirm the pickup point.
When should I book?
Most day and half-day tours can be arranged with a few days' notice; weekends and holidays fill faster, so a week ahead is safest.
How long is the drive from Rabat?
Meknes is roughly 2 to 2.5 hours by motorway from Rabat, and Volubilis is about 30 minutes beyond Meknes. The roads are good, so both UNESCO sites fit comfortably into one private day with time at each.
Can we add Moulay Idriss Zerhoun?
Yes — the holy town of Moulay Idriss sits on the hill right above Volubilis and is easy to add to the afternoon. If you'd like to focus on it, we also run a dedicated Moulay Idriss and Volubilis day.
